Open work spaces and co-sharing spaces are a growing trend in the modern business world and it comes with certain flexibilities and challenges. From people sharing desk space to loud arguments heard by everyone in the space, I'd like to share some observations I made before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some flexibilities of having an open work or co-sharing space include affordability of the working area and the ability for workers to feel at home working in an environment that feels open and receptive. Companies these days rent out portions of their office spaces to other companies to create a passive side revenue for the respective companies. Financial constraints and the recent unfortunate rise of unemployment and recession fears due to COVID-19, has made open work and co-sharing spaces look the more palatable.
Some challenges that do come with open work spaces and co-sharing spaces include people bumping into each other all the time on the company floors. Workers from the same company or different companies renting a co-sharing space might bump into each other and might create an unpleasant way to be working. Having loud disagreements between members of the same company, or in the case of co-sharing spaces, other companies can make working in such spaces really unwelcoming and unconducive for optimal work.
After everything is said and done and the world is finally rid of the unfortunate pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, a sense of calm and stability should start to return. Employment opportunities should be back again and people will probably go back to co-sharing office spaces.
